Slovenia and Tuscany September 2013

Slovenia

Together with a Mediterrann costline, old world towns, scenic vineyards and alpine peaks, Slovenia offers everything europe is renowned for. The collision of four major European geographical units has created a very invigorating landscape, much of it thickly forested.  More than a third of the country’s area is protected. The most mountainous region is the north, where the Alps begin. The Julian Alps and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps have many stunning sharp peaks. The peaks of the Karavanke, the mountains bordering Austria, are more gentle.

Hike at over 2000 metres through an aline meadow one day, sip a Campari at a Mediterranean beach the next. Explore medieval castle before lunch and attnd a music fesival after dinner.  You can do all of this and more, we will visit the  vine flourished farms, while plains and basins populate the areas between the hills. The Ljubljana region lies in the largest basin and one level Ljubljana appears to be quaint old-time Europe, but here, low-key charm and cutting edge ideas coeixst. Some compare its buzz to Prague of the mid 1990's. Only 55 klms to the north west, Bled seems a world away. Like a scne in a snow dome. it combines a sky-blue lake, alpine peaks and a castle on a rocy crag., and barely seem changed since genteel days of the Hapsburgs. The beauty of the surrounding Julian Alps invites comparisons to Switzerland, but the landscapes are wilder and not as touristy.  West of Ljubiljan we will discover a karst landscape of vineyards, olive groves and horse farms and in just one hour we will reach the Adriatic coast, wedged lik an afterthought between Italy and Croatia.

Slovenia has an amazing wealth of attractions and features. The choice is so wide that sometimes it is hard to decide what to visit. On this tour we have  narrowed down the choice to the best and  most popular Tourist attractions in Slovenia. Many of them are the kind that you truly have to visit to get the real feel of Slovenia. These range from castles to nature parks to local farms and vinyards. Where we will be in the Slovenian countryside  time seems to  pass more, and a wide range of green experiences is within reach. Friendly hosts on tourist farms serve tasty, home-cooked food and drink. Relax in the company of open, friendly people and unspoilt nature, and just be yourself again. Give yourself up to the harmony of coexistence of man and nature, and feel the authenticity of the Slovenian countryside. We will also visit the Julian Alps which are  bejewelled by two picturesque lakes. Bled with its legendary island in the middle of the lake, overlooking castle, hot springs, and beneficial climate has attracted numerous cosmopolitan visitors for centuries. We will get to know the real country life as you wake up at one of more than four hundred tourist farms to the ring of cowbells, the tweeting of birds and the aroma of fresh bread. At these tourist farms you can find little havens of tranquillity and relaxation, and get to know warm people, their customs and their domestic animals. The apple is the symbol of quality. The best equipped tourist farms with outstanding services and a well maintained house and farm earn four apples.

Tuscany

TuscanyFrom the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. They  come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands. On this tour we will do it all!  Florence, Siena and Pisa and Vienna. The roll call of città di arte, cities of art, is daunting. The more you come to know the region, the more extraordinary Tuscany appears. Enjoy your visit!
