UDAIPUR

We spent our last day in Udaipur with an early morning boat ride on Lake Pichola  stopping at a small island where the past Kings would spend  leisure time with their several wives and contraband. We motored past our Palace Hotel taking photos of our accommodation. Scattered on the shores of the lake are several new hotels which
fortunately  have kept the original architecture. We passed women bathing and washing on the edge of the lake. Perched high above the lake and situated 5 klms drive from Udaipur is Monsoon Palace surrounded by the Aravli mountains which are older than the Himalayas with its highest peak at 1700 mtrs. The area is a wildlife sanctuary and home to many langur monkeys and the elusive leopard. Our last evening was celebrated at a puppet and local musicians performance at the city amphitheater followed by yet another delicious meal at a restaurant overlooking the lake. Tomorrow we drive to Jaipur.
